Child Friendly Beaches on St Martin Worth Exploring
If you are traveling to Sint Maarten with a young family, then finding a family friendly beach will be a priority for your vacation fun. There's nothing quite like seeing your little ones wade into warm, shallow water and explore the soft sand for shells. There are close to forty beaches on St Maarten and each offers a unique atmosphere. Some of the beaches on St Martin are ideal for snorkeling, others for beachcombing and yes, some for plane watching!
But finding the perfect family friendly beach on St Martin shouldn't feel daunting. So pack some toys and sunscreen and head to these beaches which offer a great environment for little ones.
Baby Beach on French St Martin
Located on the French side of St. Martin, just south east of Orient Bay is Le Galion Beach, otherwise known as Baby Beach. Here, protected by the barrier reef, the waters are amazingly calm and very shallow. Part of the St Martin Nature Marine Reserve, this beautiful beach boasts clear clean waters ideal for snorkeling and swimming, and super soft sand for building sandcastles and combing for shells.
For the older kids in the group there’s also kiteboarding, windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding. Beach chairs and umbrellas, snorkeling gear, paddleboards and kayaks are all available for rent from local shops like Chez Pat.
Friar's Beach North of Marigot
If you’re looking for a laid back atmosphere where your family can relax, then Friar’s Beach on the French side of St Martin is ideal.
Situated north of the French capital Marigot, this smaller beach is protected from ocean swells and has a lovely view of neighbouring Anguilla Island. You can rent chairs and beach umbrellas for the day on Friar's Beach. And since the beach is west facing you will be guaranteed amazing sunset views.
Refresh at Friar’s Bay Beach Café, a bistro offering a diverse menu including traditional salads, sandwiches, and burgers as well as French-inspired items like quiche, beef carpaccio and fish ceviche. Enjoy live music from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Sundays.
The Diversity of St Martin
This dual nation island offers no shortage of fun things to do and places to explore. And while the two calm, family friendly beaches are located on the French side of the island, the Dutch side offers a cosmopolitan vibe you just don't want to miss.
The Great Bay in Philipsburg is home to one of the most unique excursions on St. Martin. If time permits and you are able to find care for your children under the age of 12, then you should add yacht racing to your list. Not just any yacht though...the thoroughbreds of the ocean! The 12Metre Challenge puts you right in the middle of crewing one of the famous America's Cup yachts and even pits you against another competing yacht to see who emerges the victor in this battle of strategy, cunning and technique.
It is no small feat to race a 12Metre vessel, and the memories, much like those of seeing your little ones build their first sandcastle on the beach, won't leave you any time soon.
