On Saint Martin, there’s an endless variety of things to do and excursions to take. It’s known for its white-sand beaches, picturesque vistas, and free-flowing guavaberry rum drinks. What more could you ask for?
Well, standing nearly arm’s length from a landing Boeing 747 for starters.
That’s right. Saint Martin’s known for many things, but what may be its most famous attraction is plane watching at the world-renowned Maho beach.
For those who are interested in aviation, Maho Beach is a place you might find familiar. Situated right behind the tail-end of the St Maarten airport, Maho Beach gives visitors an up-close-and-personal view of landing aircraft.
When on the beach, you’ll find yourself situated directly underneath landing planes. Standing here puts you so close to planes that you’ll often find yourself knocked about by the resulting jet blast. Some find this exciting, while others find it dangerous. Regardless, it’s an experience you’ll likely not find anywhere else.
BEST RESTAURANTS FOR PLANE WATCHING
If you’re satisfied viewing the planes from a slightly more reasonable distance, restaurants are at each end of the beach. On one end of the beach is the Tortuga Beach Cafe, which is especially excellent if you’re visiting Saint Martin with children. If you’re looking for something a little wilder, (topless women drink free) order a bucket of Coronas at the famous Sunset Beach Bar. Both options have great views of the planes.
So after the thrill of 12 Metre Challenge yachting excursion, head on over to Maho Beach for a drink and some additional thrills watching the planes landing and taking off. What better way to end a quintessential day on tropical Saint Martin?
