St. Martin Beaches – Unique Beaches Along Dutch and French Sides

Miles from Alaska or Ontario, Canada, Long Bay St. Martin is a part of the Antilles Archipelago, an extensive stretch of beach, as the name implies, where solitude is only interrupted by the gentle surf or resident pelicans.

With over thirty beaches the island is paradise for sun lovers.

If you’re arriving by cruise ship into the Dutch capital of Philipsburg, you can visit Great Bay Beach, a 20 minute walk or quick water taxi ride. It’s ideal for families and offers cafes, duty free shopping and umbrella rentals.  This is the site of the world famous 12 Metre yacht races that take place every day when 2 amateur crews – visitors to St. Martin – race real America’s Cup yachts!

Also on the Dutch side, is Mullet Bay with gorgeous white sands, an active surf and easy access to water; it’s an ideal Sint Maarten beach for surfing and snorkeling.

Looking for privacy? Simpson Bay is a quiet setting, a long stretch of beautiful sand facing south, so it’s protected from the northeast winds.

Maho Bay is a small white sand beach where tourists can have a “blast” with new meaning! The beach is under the flight path so you can literally feel the jet blast from planes taking off or approaching final descent.

The French side boasts breathtaking beaches like Grand Case, a gorgeous mile long beach offering spectacular sunset views and superb swimming and snorkeling. It’s known as Gourmet Beach because of the prevalence of gourmet restaurants, such as Auberge Gourmande, noted for classical French cuisine in a romantic elegant atmosphere.

North of Marigot, the Capital of the French side of St. Martin, is Friar’s Beach, a smaller beach with clear waters and gentle waves making it ideal for families.

Along the eastern coast is Orient Bay, an extremely popular St. Martin beach area where you can indulge in a variety of water sports including swimming, snorkeling, tubing, and banana boating. While the beach is known as being clothing optional, this pertains mostly to the naturist resort at the southern end of the beach.

Quiet seclusion, family fun, exhilarating water activities, fine dining; there’s a bevy of St Martin beaches beckoning you.

Visiting this latitude and longitude will definitely enhance your attitude!
